How to extend the service life of slewing bearings

As a key mechanical component in the field of industrial heavy loads, slewing bearings have multi-directional load-bearing capacity and can withstand the combined effects of axial force, radial force and overturning moment at the same time. They are widely used in high-end equipment fields such as heavy lifting machinery (such as port cranes, crawler cranes), engineering machinery equipment (such as hydraulic excavators, shield machines) and new energy equipment (such as large wind turbines, solar tracking systems). However, like any other mechanical component, slewing ring bearings are also prone to failure, resulting in costly downtime, equipment damage and safety hazards.

As a core component of industrial heavy equipment, the reliability of slewing bearings is directly related to the operating efficiency and safety of the equipment. Here are some tips to extend the life of slewing bearings.

1. Lubrication

Insufficient lubrication will increase the friction and temperature of the slewing bearing, thereby accelerating the wear of the slewing bearing. To avoid such problems, ensure that:

Adequate lubricant: Check the lubricant level regularly to avoid shortages.

Select suitable lubricants: Under high load conditions, grease containing EP2 extreme pressure additives must be used to prevent the lubricating film from rupture.

Prevent contamination: Keep the lubrication system clean and avoid the intrusion of dirt, debris or moisture.

2. Installation

Correct installation is the key to ensure the performance of the slewing bearing. Improper installation may cause problems such as eccentric load of the shaft system and uneven distribution of contact stress.

Surface flatness: Ensure that the flatness of the mounting surface is within the allowable range. If the bearing mounting surface is uneven, it will cause misalignment, which will lead to increased wear.

Accurate preload: If the slewing bearing is preloaded too much or too little, it will cause uneven load, excessive wear and reduced life.

Incorrect bolt torque: Correctly install the bolt torque. If it is incorrect, it will cause the bearing to stick or generate too much heat.

3. Overload

Load control: Avoid overloaded bearing operation

Regular maintenance: Develop a maintenance plan and check the bearing wear regularly.

4. Corrosion

Corrosion is another major cause of bearing failure.

Environmental adaptability design: Select appropriate materials and protective measures according to the bearing use environment.

As the core component of industrial heavy-duty equipment, correct maintenance, installation and lubrication of slewing ring bearings are crucial to ensure the service life and reliability of slewing ring bearings.
